Whether you’re a victim of recurring headaches, have experienced one before and hated it, or know someone else who constantly gets them, you’ll want to read on to learn how you can prevent them from plaguing your life.
Headaches are generally defined as a pain or discomfort in the head, scalp, or neck. In the US alone, more than 37 million people suffer from migraines, a more chronic and debilitating form of headaches. Each headache is unique, but many individuals suffer from symptoms including chills, loss of appetite, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, or overall weakness. Traditional methods of treatment often include prescription medications that are either formulated to treat and target headaches specifically or work to change the chemical balance in your body (antidepressants). These medications frequently have side effects and limit what a person can do.
Chiropractic care is a form of gentle and natural care that helps to bring the spine back into alignment allowing your body to function properly; therefore giving your body a chance to effectively fight off disease and prevent feeling unwell.
Below are some care studies that illustrate overall findings and different types of individual’s successes with chiropractic care for their headache condition:
Chiropractic care for migraines.
“Chiropractors believe that some migraines originate in the spine. Often a misalignment of the vertebrae, or subluxation, can irritate the nerves that travel the length of the spine to the brain. This misalignment makes a person more prone to chemical imbalances in the brain. Some researchers say that realigning the vertebrae—a chiropractor’s specialty—relieves the pressure against inflamed nerves and can in turn relieve the headaches.”

Chiropractic care reported to be safe and effective for pregnant women with migraines. “A case report involving a pregnant 24 year old woman with chronic migraine headaches since age 12 years presented for chiropractic care. Chiropractic adjustments were applied to sites of vertebral subluxation. The intensity of her migraine headaches had significantly reduced following the first three visits. This resulted in self-withdrawal and decrease dependence on medication. The authors concluded, “This case study provides supporting evidence on the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care during pregnancy with a chief complaint of migraine headaches.”
